Mama Muse

Here at Mali & Me, we believe in the importance in celebrating motherhood!
We wanted to create an ongoing conversation with our fellow mamas to see just how magical they are – so without further ado, welcome to Mama Muse, our monthly spotlight on our favourite creative mamas.

We’d love to introduce the lovely Evie! A creative, artist, MOTHER, partner (and so, so, so much more). Evie kindly wanted to share some words with us. Read below x

Mali: In once sentence, tell us a little bit about yourself.
Evie: I would describe my self  as driven, positive and always looking for an opportunity to do better.

Mali: When did you discover yourself as an artist?
Evie: I believe I have always been a creative person and have seen things in different ways, I just never really explored my creative side. Four years ago when I had my son, that is when I suddenly found my self with more time then I have ever had. Sounds crazy now to think about it, having a baby is so life changing and I was so sleep deprived but yet I had time. It was within this time I discovered my potential as an artist.

As soon as my boy would have his nap, I would break my time up, thirty minutes to clean or have a power nap depending what my body needed and whatever time left to create. I really took to the uncontrolled look of alcohol ink, I taught my self how to work with this medium. There was lots of failures while during the learning process however I believe these were all lessons and I wouldn't have become the artist I am without them.

I randomly met a woman at a park while our kids were playing and she said she loved my earrings, I told her how I make them and she asked to buy a pair.
She came over to collect her customised earrings and she loved the art pieces I was currently working on, she called few days later asking if I would work on some commission pieces. She was in charge of designing a new Mental Health space for Prince Charles Hospital, Brisbane - I was so excited yet nervous! These were going to be the biggest pieces I have ever created! Thankfully, my partner is very supportive and looked after our son while I worked on the pieces.
That was the true begging of my artistry.

Mali: Has motherhood impacted your creativity?
Evie: Absolutely, I see life so differently. I want to teach my son the beauty of art and creativity.

Mali: How do you find a good balance as a mother, partner and artist?
Evie:  If I’m being honest, it was hard to find a good balance - I could easily get lost within time and spend all day creating if I could.  I either wake up early in the morning before the boys to do some work or as soon as our son goes to sleep, I would dedicate a few hours to my self.  My Partner is musically creative so he loves to spend time for himself too.

Mali: What is your artistic process, from conception to final product. Who and what inspires you?
Evie: I get my inspiration mainly from nature and aerial ocean photography. I see most of my pieces in my head before I begin. My colour palette and vision is then transferred onto the canvas. My final products definitely present the energy that I was feeling when I was creating. I adore the work from Kim Rose and Mitch Gobel, I hope to get to their level one day

Mali: Name two favourite pieces/products that you’ve created yourself.
Evie: I have collaborated with Luna Active Fitness and I designed really beautiful grounded art for their Yoga & Reformer mats. All four designs are stunning and I am so proud of them. We named it the Gaia Collection - Check them out on Instagram @luna_activefitness

I am currently working on delicate gemstone + pearl necklace.  My skin is very sensitive and I can't wear cheap products so I decided to make my own quality finishes.
I adore what I have made for myself and I will be making  a few extra to sell ofcourse ;).

Mali: You are amazing, so tell us the secret, how do you do it ALL?
Evie:
Dedication, making time for myself and of course having the support around me.

Here are some of Evie’s beautiful pieces.
